Q & A with Jarrod McKane

We were lucky enough to catch a moment with champion bareback rider, Jarrod McKane. The bareback event is certainly one of the most gruelling in rodeo. With much success in this event for Jarrod, winning back-to-back awards at the Sydney Royal Easter Federation Rodeos in 2022 & 2023, was definitely a highlight.

Wrangler (WR): How did it all begin for Jarrod, tell us the story of how you got into Bareback riding?

Jarrod McKane (JM): I started out in the junior steer ride, then moved up to the second division bulls before I found my way into bareback riding.

WR: How would you describe yourself in 5 words?

JM: Committed, Easy-going, Hard Working, Funny & Dedicated.

WR: Who have been your biggest influences?

JM: A good mate of mine, Brock Mullhall.

WR: Most memorable moment in Bareback?

JM: I’d say when I won my Australian title in 2021 and Rookie of the Year title in 2021.

WR: Tell us a Fun Fact about you?

JM: I’m a sheep shearer.

WR: What advice would you like to give the younger generations starting out in Bareback riding?

JM: You only get out of it what you’re willing to put into it.

WR: What is your best fashion tip?

JM: Wrangler 20X Competition Jeans are perfect for everything, they are my go-to jeans!

WR: What’s coming up for the remainder of 2023?

JM: Exciting times ahead, plenty more rodeos including a trip planned to Texas at the end of May this year.
