The Young Gun, James Moorhead

Here at Wrangler/Twisted X we are very excited to introduce a new member to our amazing team of sponsored riders. Bring in the young gun James Moorhead. James hails from beautiful Glen Innes in the New England region of New South Wales, where he works & trains his horses on his family property.

This humble young man would best describe himself as a young rural kid who’s passionate about the performance horse industry.

His passion for campdrafting began when an employee of his parents suggested he have a run at a campdraft and taught him how to do it on the flat at home. Thereafter, he nominated him for Copmanhurst Campdraft.

With campdrafting as his main competition focus, James has also turned his hand to cutting and challenge. With his dedication for excellence, James has devoted his time learning to hone his skill set to train his performance horses. His biggest influences are Andrew Stallman and Kimberly Sammon.

For someone so young, James has an impressive achievement history to date, certainly one of the most memorable moments has been winning the 2023 Charlie Maher Memorial 4 Cyte Young Guns Campdraft at Nutrien Classic. And, competing on their Metallic Cat stallion at the Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge.

James and his wife Bianca, love to spend afternoons water-skiing during summer or during their down time from campdrafting.

Our team here at Wrangler and Twisted X are always keen to support the next generation in any sport  (or campdrafting in James’s case), that maybe beginning to pursue their dreams.

We like to give our professional riders the opportunity to offer some words of wisdom for their journey ahead. James’s advice is “Be patient with your horses, and don’t give up.”

With western fashion trends being of main focus to us, it’s always interesting to hear people's fashion ideas. We couldn’t help but ask James for his best fashion tip and his response was, “You can’t go wrong with a crisp white shirt.”

Now well into 2023, it's still full steam ahead for James and Bianca, planning on getting to many more campdrafts, including the major three, Condamine Bell, Chinchilla Grandfather Clock and Warwick Gold Cup Campdrafts.

James has high hopes for his upcoming young horses’ careers, and is also excited to see his own Campdraft, “Below Zero”, host its first event at the end of this year.
